Common Questions when Adopting a Dog
If you don't find an answer to your question below please email us!
How long does the application process take?
We use the "adopters welcome" method, so there is no wait time. Once you have completed a questionnaire that takes 5-10 minutes, you can schedule a meet and greet immediately. Our adoption counselors will work with you to find a dog that fits into your lifestyle. We always want what's best for you and the dog.
Can I take a dog home the same day I meet them?
Yes, as long as the dog is already spayed or neutered. If not, we will schedule a pick-up date post-surgery. Puppies or dogs that are not approved for surgery can be adopted at any time.
Do I bring my current dog for a meet and greet?
Absolutely, we encourage dog-to-dog introductions to ensure your current pets and the new dog are a good match.
What is included in the adoption fee?
The fee covers spay/neuter surgery, DHLPP vaccine, bordetella, dewormer, flea/tick treatment, microchip, and current dog license. A rabies vaccine, leptospirosis vaccine, heartworm testing, and heartworm prevention is also given based upon the dogs age.
What if the dog isn't the right fit once I get home?
We strongly advise you to give the dog time to adjust to its' new environment and to reach out to a certified trainer with any behavior concerns you have. If you are not able to work through the issues, we do accept returned adoptions. An appointment is required and there are no refunds issued.
Do I need my landlords permission?
Yes. If you rent you should refer to your landlords pet policy for any weight or breed restrictions and pay any required pet deposit prior to finalizing an adoption.
Can I put a "hold" on a dog I see online?
As long as you have submitted a questionnaire and scheduled a meet and greet we will place a dog on a one time hold for no more than 24 hours.
How old do you have to be to adopt?
All adopters must be at least 18 years old and present a valid photo ID.
What do I need to bring when I pick up my new dog?
